ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to evaluate mutual stakeholders’ interdependent options for introducing alternative fuels for shipping on the basis of SoS technique and simulation, which is an agent-based discrete event simulation of maritime transportation. The evaluation is carried out for not only each stakeholder’s lifecycle properties but also the overall system’s properties and clarifies tradespace of their actions. It helps stakeholders understand their system’s phenomena and make a decision. In the case study, the introduction of LNG for crude oil tanker in a route between Japan and Persian Gulf is assumed, actions of ship operating company and terminal operator are modeled, and the impact of actions are evaluated by the developed simulation. On the basis of the result, it demonstrates that we can take a look at system’s behavior by the simulation and discuss strategy of ship operator with some insight from the simulation result.
