ABSTRACT

It is Tuesday afternoon and Mrs H comes in for a postnatal consultation at the maternity clinic. We have seen each other five times before the birth of her daughter, and she comes back today to introduce her. The girl is one month old. Mrs H tells me how lost she was in the first few weeks after the birth, and recognises how helpful it was to decelerate in the last three months of her pregnancy. Slowing down permitted her to prepare the welcoming of her baby.
