ABSTRACT

The views of doctors on topical steroids are often at odds with those of patients. Doctors who provide treatment without the use of topical steroids would also be placed in the professional sector. The professional sector refers to the legally recognized professional health care sector, which is typified by modern medicine. Mutually complementary relationship not only applies to cases where modern medicine is introduced alongside native medicine, but can also be seen in cases where alternative medicine prospered after the dominance of modern medicine. The theory of medical pluralism has been promoted by anthropologists such as Charles Miller Leslie and expresses the fact that in many societies, various forms of health care exist in addition to modern medicine, such as Oriental medicine, Ayurveda, or homeopathy. Various other options are available to patients beyond the doctor’s office, from being taken care of at home by a family member to visiting an alternative medicine practitioner.
