ABSTRACT

Goal setting is a prerequisite for success, and the simple truth is something which everyone can recognise when they think about it. Goal setting is a key to success in projects, as well as in everyday life. Objective or goal setting in a project involves defining characteristics of the outcome that is expected from a project. An important concept related to the discussion of goals or objectives is the measurement of the success of a project and its management. Impact objectives reflect the longer-term effects that the project outcome will lead to. These might also be called organisational goals, and they reflect how the underlying needs of the stakeholders will be met. The critical path method focuses on identifying these dominant ways in the projects and evaluates the slack in those tasks that are not on the critical path.
