ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors lay out a structure to help leaders focus their creative thinking along the most productive and useful lines and emphasise the importance of periodic reviews and checks to ensure that their ideas remain relevant and feasible. Higher-order thinking helps leaders define projects and ensure that they are approached in a creative, ethical, and rational manner. A good leader creates a culture that encourages, rather than dampens, the development and implementation of innovative ideas. The quality of creative leadership also relates to how capable leaders are of harnessing and using the creative talent of others. Active imagination is a method developed by Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung and aims to develop one’s creative thinking, as well as one’s self-understanding and personality. The purpose of an active imagination is creative thinking, creative living, and individuation, which entails accepting what makes leaders special.
