ABSTRACT

We apply an almost universal template on all public companies with little attention or regard to specific differences in underlying business, process, or technology. It can be easy to forget that even a simple internal control, such as authorized updates to vendor data, can be accomplished in a multitude of ways. An improvisational use and configuration of Software as a Service (SaaS) gives birth to more stories. Contrast this with the "dumb-user stories" that Ellen Rose writes about in User Error, how vendors are apt to portray users to be less than knowledgeable of intended software functionality when encountering more than cryptic error messages. An IT department, for example, may often place an order for computer hardware and software on behalf of other departments, so having the purchase requisition route to the requestor's designated department approver or supervisor doesn't quite apply in this instance if the spending is incurred on behalf of another department.
