ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with fragility – not as weakness but openness to exploring deep seated beliefs. We would have liked Software as a Service (SaaS) deployments to be iron-clad and error-free, yet when we hear tales of SaaS founders' starting their companies from scratch, we are struck by the sheer speed and agility at having to deploy new functionality and rolling with the punches if something breaks. The advent of SaaS is nothing short of an inevitable displacement of backstage behavior onstage. When it comes to the development of custom scripts to modify the behavior of SaaS or tailor it to better meet business needs, scripting can take place in an integrated development environment (IDE) insofar as the SaaS allows. Using the in-built code editor, an in-house or external developer can access fields or attributes native to the SaaS.
