ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some cultural shifts that management will need to initiate. It describes the critical nature of feedback and several types of feedback that are needed to drive engagement to world class levels. Whenever the levels of engagement are improved, one of the logical outcomes is the new “openness” of the culture. An investment in managers’ engagement in all industries, but these in particular, could go a long way in boosting employee engagement. There are visual feedback systems and systems of management action that provide behavioral feedback. At the heart of system dynamics are feedback systems. The role of management in system transparency is two-fold. First, there is the typical role of management of: planning and budgeting; organizing and staffing; as well as controlling and problem solving while the system is being built, maintained and supported. Second, management can have an even greater impact, and that occurs when they actually use this system.
