ABSTRACT

The scientists and scholars with their “top-down” approach look at the theory to find the proper construct to define engagement and seem to stop there. They seem more than satisfied when their intellectual curiosity is satisfied by proving the theory. Major issue causing problems for both the scholars and the practitioners is the data and the “crazymaking” that flows from these data. The scholars seem to be driven by a desire to understand, whereas the practitioners are driven by a desire to improve businesses. “Meetings of scientists and other professional people, at which speakers and participants contribute to other members’ new theory and methods, with exchange of theory and experience”. The critical concepts of engagement, intellectual, emotional and physical commitment to the work, apply to all workers. Regardless of the lack of cooperation and interaction on the development and use of the concept of engagement, the academic community and the practitioners share some common beliefs.
