ABSTRACT

This chapter offers insight into the mental and emotional health of Generation Z, with a specific focus on their worries about failure, money, and world issues. As a stressed out and worried generation, their concerns are taking a toll on their mental health, impacting both their sense of optimism and feelings of happiness. Further, many in Generation Z exhibit high levels of stress, and, collectively, the generation has high rates of anxiety and depression. The chapter culminates with an overview of factors contributing to the mental health of those in Generation Z, including a fear of missing out, vicarious trauma, the personal fable, digital reliving, and virtual support, and offers examples for providing counseling and support services to Generation Z.
