ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of Generation Z’s K–12 experience and the higher education landscape of today. Contemporary issues in education are discussed including the rise in homeschooling and charter schools, digital learning tools, and standardized testing, as well as parental involvement and school safety. A discussion as to how these trends have impacted Generation Z’s educational experience is also included. In addition, this chapter outlines factors affecting Generation Z’s college experience including living at home, focusing on marketable majors, community college and vocational education options, HBCUs, MOOCs, online classes, customized learning experiences, and campus environments.
