ABSTRACT

Power quality issues at AC mains is a major problem in load-commutated inverter (LCI)-fed synchronous motors. This chapter proposes several topologies for reduction of total harmonics for the mitigation of PQ problems in LCI-fed synchronous motor drives using multipulse AC–DC converters. The requirements of 18- and 24-pulse converters are explained in this chapter. The operation of 6- and 12-pulse converters is illustrated along with the simulation results. The chapter is also well supported with filter design and harmonic analysis.
