ABSTRACT

Active power filters can be used anywhere in the power system to compensate non-linear load, reactive power, and voltage balance. This chapter brings the research and review of various control topologies of different types of filters and nonlinear loads. Design of various parameters along with their mathematical modelling is given in this chapter. The topologies and advantages of the three-phase four-wire system are well addressed. The effect of neutral and grounding practices for power quality improvement is explained in this chapter. A detailed comparison of three-wire and four-wire systems is given to make an appropriate choice for power quality improvement.
