ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author focuses on sketching two or more subjects. A hint of a “prop” to give context to the jump and his quick-sketch shorthand for the hind quarter. Capturing that action in the few seconds that a match consists of is the quick sketchers challenge. In sketching fast action, especially with multiple characters, look for the basic shapes. As has been stated before, observation is a key component to sketching multiple characters, particularly the rapid movement of two voluminous bodies in continuous motion. Visual shorthand and basic shapes contribute to artists' quick sketching of multiple characters. Paying attention to the unique body type, hairstyle, and costume will add believability to artists' sketches. In sketching fast action, especially with multiple characters, look for the basic shapes. Knowing something about what artists' sketch will facilitate the quickness in which artist translate what their see to their pen.
