Surveys 640 students and 100 faculty members with modified Gough’s “Survey of College Environments.” Finds a significant difference between resident and non-residential students at Bartlesville Wesleyan with no significant difference at Houghton (NY), Marion (IN), and Central Wesleyan (SC). Discovers significant difference between freshmen persisters and leavers. Claims religiousity was found to be “appropriate to and comparable with” the Wesleyan Church. Recommends that the colleges emphasize their religious commitment in all promotional efforts.

Reviews the graduates of Marion College from 1950 to 1969. Eighty percent were in the fields of their majors with Elementary Education more likely at 88% than Social Science with 60%. Those who majored in Theology were morely to still be in their major than those who majored in Religion. Marion alumni who were later graduates (of the 1960’s) are more likely to be in employment related to their degree than those from prior years. Alumni who made career decisions before college are more likely to be in related work.

Details the development and operation of Wesleyan Methodist Church (now part of the Wesleyan Church) colleges since 1843. Includes founding of church; educational views of founding leaders; why colleges failed; or transferred sponsorship--Adrian (MI) College and Wheaton (IL) College. Concludes that the 326colleges need professional educators, rather than ministers, for presidents.

Examines (1) curricula of existing programs; (2) the nature of professional training among ministers; and (3) expectations held by Wesleyan ministers, administrators and educators. Finds inadequate Financial support, deficiency of adequately trained faculty and diversity of levels of expectation. Points out that seventy percent of the ministers were not satisfied with the level of their training and that there was only a limited interest in developing a Wesleyan seminary.

Provides early pictures and descriptions of God’s Bible School of Cincinnati and other early colleges of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Greensboro, NC; Owosso, MI; Beulah Park near Allentown, PA; Carlinville, IN; Pilgrim Bible College in Pasadena, CA; and Colorado Springs, CO. Examines the forming of Central Pilgrim College in Bartlesville, OK from a merger of Colorado Springs Bible College and Western Pilgrim College in El Monte, CA in 1958. The Pilgrim Holiness Church existed from 1897 to 1968 and is now part of the Wesleyan Church.
