ABSTRACT

Many schools are looking at giving one or more teachers the responsibility for disseminating research among staff. This chapter looks at how to play this role effectively. There are many people in any school staff who are more than just a teacher—some also coach a sports team, act as school counsellor or edit the school newspaper. The research lead will also play a key role in accessing and sharing information. Like a school librarian, they can use their specialised skills to support other members of staff. Some people have their concerns about the research lead role. The chapter describes how a research lead can be a leader among equals and an agent of change. They can advocate for the work of their colleagues and help to bring it to a wider audience. They can provide expert technical support in the background, supporting rather than undermining other teachers’ ability to find information.
