ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book described the journey of the migrants from the subdepots to Suriname. It describes the various phases in the settlement history of the Bhojpuri migrants in Suriname. 'Double migration and silenced history: Hindustanis from Suriname to the Netherlands', was an emotional history of the exile and separation of the Bhojpuri migrants from India to Suriname and then to the Netherlands that gave rise to the bidesia bhav. The book describes the mass migration that is still going on from the Bhojpuri region to various parts of India, especially to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Surat and Bangalore. It describes how migrants are being used by various political parties in the destination points to win votes as they constitute a large vote bank and how cultural productions based on migration and separation are used to emotionally win them over.
