ABSTRACT

Optical interconnect have gained much attention in today’s research domain for supporting a wide variety of applications including high speed data transmission. Photodetector is one of the most predominant types of technology in utilization today. Photodetectors cover a broad space of technologies. Photodetectors are extensively used in the fiber optics communication at the transmission end of the photonic system. In this paper we analyzed the performance of photodetector for use in optical interconnects. We take responsivity, quantum efficiency, dark current and gain into consideration. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in the parameters and this analysis greatly affects performance of photodetector by increasing quantum efficiency, increasing speed and eliminating slow hole movement in the device.
