ABSTRACT

The author associated his ideas with the phenomenon of phagocytosis, a biological phenomenon whereby one bacteria approaches another, extends pseudopods, and engulfs it. The caesura indicated a primitive type of thinking equivalent to the nutrition of undifferentiated organisms, such as certain colonies of bacteria. It seemed to be characteristic of a parasitic type of link. During this period a dream came up where the patient was in the clinical area of a hospital where he works and there was a group of children among the patients. In the next room there was a sign that read: “Pregnancy Tests”. Trying to reflect on this chapter, the author has brought up a question that was implicit regarding knowledge and theory in psychoanalysis. Knowledge results from the intimate connection with the emotional experience that is inherent to the psychoanalytic encounter.
