ABSTRACT

Every week on Monday or Tuesday evening the parents whose children are currently hospitalised on the Child and Family Unit, meet for two seminars lasting for a total of one and a half hours. The parents' involvement is crucial. They are expected to attend and, if not, they are taken aside and given a reminder. The feedback from parents regarding the evening training sessions is almost always positive. Parents who are more concerned about their children are more likely to report that their children are having difficulties. If parents become too regulating or controlling the Parent in their children becomes dominant while the Adult can become weaker and the Child at times non-existent. Parents have a built-in tendency to respond to a child's crying. They can't relax until the child stops crying. Because of their built-in mechanism, the harder the child cries, the more tense the mother feels.
