ABSTRACT

In many discussions about designing learning materials the emphasis is on the presentation, interaction and technology. When developing computer-based learning it is easy to concentrate on design and not give content the attention it deserves. Content is not simply information that a person can locate in a book, view on a video or hear on a cassette. It requires the expertise of practitioners to be extracted and analysis of current practice to be undertaken. Scripting is an iterative process so the person is continuously developing, enhancing and changing it until he is satisfied that it meets the needs of the project. One approach to scripting is to develop a story board, a visual representation which illustrates the content, navigation and structure of the learning materials. Storyboards can be developed to show each screen display or simply remain as an overview of the major elements of the material, depending on what the person wants to achieve.
