ABSTRACT

The human eye can recognize millions of colours or, rather, shades of colours. Computers are capable of producing these shades by mixing three colours – red, blue and green. Three variables are used to describe colour: hue, saturation, and intensity. Some degree of colour blindness affects about 8 per cent of people in the Western world, the main problem being that they cannot distinguish between red and green. The learners are therefore provided with two opportunities to have their attention drawn to the key information or to realize that certain chunks of information are related. To gain the positive advantages of using colour it must be used in a systematic way to achieve a distinct objective. Colour is like a code that learners must appreciate in order to understand the interface. When they know that blue always indicates a heading they can understand the interface. Colour may be used to highlight information or areas of the display.
