ABSTRACT

The possibility of gunk arises as a concern for eliminativism, since eliminativists typically claim that there are no trees but that there are simples arranged treewise. In this sense, the objection goes, eliminativism is committed to the existence of simples. But as we shall see eliminativism is not a claim about the nature of the fundamental components – it is a method that is compatible with any fundamental ontology, including gunk ontology.
