ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe descriptive statistics that provide us with summary measures of a variable. We begin by presenting some typical measures of central tendency such as the mean, median, and mode, and describe how to measure the spread of a variable by calculating the range, interquartile range (IQR), variance, and standard deviation. We will explore how to use Minitab to calculate such measures of central tendency and variability by working through numerous examples.
