ABSTRACT

The Holy Grail of Homo sapiens today is how to moderate the speeding pace of human “progress” without spoiling everything around us that has made advance so overwhelmingly desired? Shall we prove capable of remaining alive and well amid worrisome constraints? Or can we learn to live and thrive with more measured consumption, much less than what we waste, at the beginning of the new millennium? These and other issues are questioned in our chapter on sustainable development. Chapter 14 outlines the history of debate and presents UN-related efforts such as what was cast in 2015 only: The 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. The Chapter warns that if replies to these questions prove negative, then we can credibly wonder: What is our future on Earth?
