ABSTRACT

A new in situ diagnostic method of Li-ion battery (LiBs) diagnostics of the Li distribution in LiBs by ion beam analysis (IBA) has been proposed and demonstrated. Recently, proof of principle experiments to diagnose Li-ion battery electrodes with IBA were carried out by using electrostatic ion accelerators in Japan and Spain. These IBA experiment results are the basis for the IBA of LiBs using laser-driven ion beams. Preliminary experiments to diagnose Li-ions using laser driven proton beams were carried out at the Chemical Research Institute of Kyoto University. The experiments indicate the potential applicability of laser-accelerated ion beams for the IBA, which are discussed in this chapter.
