ABSTRACT
I do not intend to give an exact account of what Tibetan Buddhism is, and in what it consists: all I wish to do is to dispel an illusion some people may have that the original moral teaching of Buddha has been preserved here intact, among these people. There is nothing but the name of Buddhism in common. I remember the faint smile of contempt and disdain on the face of a Cingalese Buddhist monk when I asked him about the religion of the people of Tibet. It is, in fact, a form of fantastic and imaginative polytheism.
