ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explains the variety of different institutions, ownership structures and product niches in the Chinese banking sector and noted that there are, as a consequence, several different kinds of business systems. It discusses an historical overview of the influence of Western economic ideas on the development of the banking sector in China. The book explains the Chinese politics is neither unified nor homogenous, and diverse and conflicting factions continue to influence banking regulations in many ways. It analyzes whether joint ventures and foreign investment improved the corporate governance of Chinese banks and what kind of corporate governance model is emerging in the sector. The book outlines the evolution of corporate governance models in different regions, highlighting the varying importance placed on shareholder and/or stakeholder models.
