ABSTRACT

The methods of analysis include a certain number of modelling examples where the time dimension has acquired a major role – particularly in the application of neural networks – as well as the identification of important factors in the forecasting of flows in relation to market and policy requirements. The logic which directs the development of communication networks appears different from that of transport networks: while material networks favour the link, the immaterial networks favour the node which receives and redistribute the information. The key forces of mobility and communications are a direct offspring of broader social, economic and political developments. The need to develop comparative studies between countries or even regions with similar socioeconomic features seems to be a challenging opportunity especially in the framework of policy development and its implementation in a context of sustainable development.
