ABSTRACT
This chapter enumerates the upcoming technological trends in the field of automated elderly care as well as a proposal of an idea combining two different types of robots. Though the topic “Robotics” is debated with a lot of pros and cons, there is always an upper hand of the advantages that robots can do for humanity and the society. The chapter looks forward to put forth an idea to bridge a gap between “Elder-Care.” The chapter discusses about the issues faced by the elderly people in their day-to-day life and the trends that can uplift their lifestyle, especially the elderly people who deal with loneliness, mental disabilities like Alzheimer’s, dementia, and also various physical disabilities. Robotic companions have already made a great impact in the market. Assisted living can help the elderly, live independently as there is an acute shortage of caretakers nowadays. Assistive robots can help people to carry on their daily routines like brushing, eating, bathing, so on. Companion robots can monitor their stress levels, loneliness, keep track of their medical performance, and also remind them to take medicines timely. The proposed idea combines these two domains and gives a large scope of improvisation of elderly care. There may be a few areas where human assistance is very inevitable, but in the longer run this technological upgradation will surely become a part of our daily life.
