ABSTRACT
There are two components of the couple sexual style. First, maintaining sexual autonomy (“sexual voice”) while being an intimate sexual team. Second, how the couple integrate intimacy and eroticism into their sexual relationship. A motivating concept is that usually the couple’s relational and sexual styles are different. For most couples, the Best Friend relational style is the best fit, but it’s a self-defeating sexual style. The Complementary couple sexual style is the best fit because it promotes being intimate and erotic friends who can enjoy both synchronous and asynchronous sexual experiences. These is not “one right” way to be a sexual couple, but it is crucial to choose the sexual style which is the best fit for the couple. Play to the strengths of the chosen sexual style and be aware of vulnerabilities so they don’t fall into these traps. The couple sexual style promotes sexual desire and satisfaction.
