ABSTRACT

Be open to processing each partner’s vulnerabilities and changes as the individuals and relationship mature. Acceptance is the foundation for individual and couple sexuality. Sexual vulnerabilities and challenges common to specific life phases are described. For example, the common challenge for 25–35-year-olds are to develop a couple sexual style and decide whether to have children. The usual challenges for 55–65-year-olds is to establish a solid foundation for lifelong sexual intimacy and to embrace a variable, flexible couple sexuality based on Good Enough Sex (GES) expectations. All couples have personal and relational vulnerabilities. When challenges are met, their sexual relationship becomes stronger and more resilient.
