ABSTRACT

Each person is responsible for their own sexuality, especially sexual desire. Sex therapists advocate for the one—two approach of personal responsibility for sexuality and being an intimate sexual team. At its essence sexuality is a team sport. Balance is an important concept in health, including sexual health. It is crucial to establish a balance between being personally responsible for sexuality and valuing sexuality as a team process. Each partner expresses their authentic sexual self and feels accepted as a sexual person. The challenge as a sexual couple is to turn toward the partner whether the sexual encounter was great, good, mediocre, or dysfunctional. Couple sexuality can have a range of roles, meanings, and outcomes. Maintaining positive, realistic sexual expectations is crucial for individual and couple satisfaction.
