ABSTRACT

This chapter recaps the main points discussed in the book and resurrects critical race theory to interrogate teacher evaluation at the center, in the margins, and beyond. It poses critical questions of the role of teacher evaluation in reproducing or interrupting inequity. The authors advocate for approaches that move beyond the boundaries of teacher evaluation. The Framework for Equitable and Excellent Teaching (FEET) includes knowledge and skills that emerge from the culture of power. It provides access to the power prized by the dominant culture. One of the most vital contributions of the FEET is the inclusion of critical consciousness; the inclusion of this concept sets the FEET apart from existing teacher evaluation models. While emerging culturally responsive teacher evaluation models have the potential to make a positive impact in the current educational context, it is important that we continue to challenge structures of racial domination and oppression, interrogate whiteness, reconceptualize the margins, and dismantle boundaries.
