ABSTRACT

The increasing use of the finite-element method in geotechnical design has raised the question of the compliance of this design approach with Eurocode requirements for the ultimate limit state conditions, especially when a more complex soil constitutive model has been used. In his papers on this topic, Yeow (2014, 2015) compared the design of simple and more complex geotechnical structures using advanced BRICK soil model in London Clay under Eurocode 7 (EC7) Design Approach 1 (DA1). In this paper, the analyses of the multi-propped retaining wall will be compared with another advanced constitutive soil model which is calibrated to model the London Clay in an attempt to compare and contrast the resulting wall design under DA1 of EC7 ultimate limit state.
