ABSTRACT

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate single-channel 112 Gb/s PAM-4 signal transmission using a commercial 18 GHz Directly Modulated Laser (DML), achieving a record receiver sensitivity of −9 dBm. Several digital signal processing techniques are used to improve the system performance, including digital duo-binary encoding, digital pre-compensation, receiver-side Least-Mean Square (LMS) algorithm, and Maximum-Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE).
