ABSTRACT

Humanity means “making humans become humans”: namely, making men realize the creative potentials of the self and consequently making them into the worthiest individuals possible; thus, humanity is the supreme value standard of measuring whether state institutions are good or bad. Liberty is the fundamental condition both for a man to realize the creative potential of the self and for a nation to prosper and progress since the more liberty a man enjoys, the more fully his personality will develop, the more his creative potential will get realized, the more prosperous and progressive his nation will become. Conversely, alienation is the fundamental obstacle both to a man’s realization of creative potential of the self and to the prosperity and progress of a nation since the more alienated a man is, the more alienated behaviors he will develop under the domination of coercive power, the more personality he will lose, the further he will be from realizing his creative potential, the more depressed and backward the nation will become. Therefore, liberty is the fundamental humanity, while alienation is the fundamental inhumanity.
