ABSTRACT

Few academic works exist on Algeria’s relations with the Gulf region. This author’s long-standing expertise on this region and familiarity with Algeria draws an accurate, in-depth analysis of the relations between Algeria, Iran, and GCC. This chapter also provides a more realistic frame than the still prevalent perception, which ranks Iran as Algeria’s reliable partner and the GCC states as strong opponents of that relationship. Actually, Algerian non-interference stance has played to its favour in the Iran-Saudi “cold war” as well as in the GCC crisis that has been ongoing since June 2017.
