ABSTRACT

This chapter ties together the contributions in Section II with a concluding discussion of the strengths and weaknesses found in existing conflict management mechanisms. The chapter also explores the interaction between the standard repertoire of international conflict management approaches with the complex array of issues facing international conflict management scholars and practitioners as outlined in Section III. After analyzing key themes and trends identified by the chapter contributors, the conclusion critically discusses key challenges and unanswered questions, including limitations of existing theories and the current policy climate in which trust in the global architecture of international organizations is waning and nationalist sentiment rising.
