ABSTRACT

In 2013 the film Her won the Academy Award for best original screenplay. Her displays a world; a way of being in the world. Just as the TV shows Little House on the Prairie and The Simpsons ask to take part in their worlds, to ‘come and play’ with them, as it were, the film Her does the same. S. Freud says that the dream, as guardian of sleep, represents a wish as fulfilled in response to the frustrations of wakefulness. However, there is more to dreaming: the dream, as in traumatic dreams, could also be the painful re-edition of a trauma, which unceasingly forces itself upon the dreamer without the possibility of mental elaboration. The child has dreamed and the dream has been fulfilled: at last he is embraced by his mother and, at least then, he does not have to share her love with anyone else.
