ABSTRACT

This chapter covers four methods applicable to studies involving the analyses of proportions associated with three or more populations, the relevant probability distribution for all four methods being the chi-square distribution. The commonly encountered Pearson's homogeneity (or equality) of proportions is supplemented with a large samples procedure due to L. A. Marascuilo and a small samples procedure due to J. Cohen. As further examples of constructing functions, the script file for this chapter contains the code for functions that perform the computations for Marascuilo's and Cohen's methods. Extensions of the three methods discussed to simultaneous pairwise comparisons of proportions are then followed by the application of the last two to tests of general linear contrasts of proportions. The chapter closes with examples of performing the chi-square goodness of fit test.
