ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with computational details for two probability distributions needed for tests covered, the distribution of the signed rank statistic and the distribution of the rank sum statistic. One- and paired-sample tests of medians covered from the exact and normal approximate approaches for each of the sign test and the signed rank test are discussed. For independent samples, the equality of medians test for two or more samples and its application to pairwise comparisons of medians is demonstrated, and then the rank sum test of medians for independent samples also from the exact and normal approximation points of view. These are followed by the Kruskal-Wallis test, as applied to testing the equality of medians. The chapter closes with a discussion on using tests in this chapter on ordinal data.
