ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a value-added specialised milk powder manufactured in New Zealand for Stolle Milk Biologies International Incorporated. The New Zealand dairy industry has an integrated production, processing and marketing structure. The Dairy Board sees the integrated structure of the industry as pivotal to its role of marketing daily products to customers throughout the world. It makes regular statements of accountability to all New Zealand dairy farmers both through New Zealand Dairy Board (NZDB) publications and at dairy industry meetings and conferences. Stolle hyperimmune milk is produced on New Zealand farms by farmer/suppliers of the New Zealand Dairy Company under contract to the NZDB, which has a 25 percent share in the holding company, Stolle Milk Biologies International. In May 1995, Sachet Packaging, a division of the New Zealand Dairy Group of Companies, in association with the New Zealand Dairy Board, began a trial programme of Stolle hyperimmune milk in New Zealand involving interested volunteers.
