ABSTRACT

The architect’s role is to give substance to an intention that becomes apparent from reading the specifications and from contact with the general contractor. A programme is incomplete and left to the initiative of the project manager, who is considered as skilled in the art. Starting from the rough plan stage, ecodesign can help show whether the process underway is likely to attain the expected results. Ecodesign takes into account the choices made, such as orientation, neighbouring masks, and compactness, all of which are stable, long-term project data. Ecodesign is directly interested in the development of surface areas, the optimization of which is translated by a lower volume of materials used. Ecodesign introduces a fairly different point of view regarding the envelope, that is, its contribution to heating requirements. Ecodesign is highly concerned by the perspective, which involves establishing whether it is capable of changing the image of the building industry.
