ABSTRACT

Janet Nuzzie is the district instructional specialist for kindergarten through fourth grade mathematics in Pasadena ISD (TX). Her school district has over 55,000 students with 78% of the students being economically disadvantaged. The student population is 83% Hispanic, 8% African American, 6% White, and 3% Asian. Janet has over 23 years of experience in education which includes serving seven years at the district level as an instructional specialist for elementary mathematics, nine years at the regional level as an education specialist for elementary mathematics, and seven years at the classroom level as a fourth-grade teacher. Her synergistic efforts include serving as the president of TASM (an organization of mathematics supervisors in Texas), serving as vice-president (elementary) of TCTM (an organization of mathematics teachers in Texas), serving on numerous mathematics committees at the state and national level, and presenting over 90 sessions at regional, state, and national mathematics conferences.
