ABSTRACT

The author relates how Caroline, as a consequence of her mother’s death, received a large inheritance and donated a significant portion of it to save the lives of neonatal babies in a hospital department. At first, Caroline expresses her fear that the dream means she is going mad and will need to be hospitalized in a psychiatric ward. Caroline cries until the end of the hour. The crying represents not only pain but also the crying at the relief that there is someone to cry to. Caroline is sharing the experience of hope in being able to face the fearful unknown future. To be able to dream about it, to know it is in fact a dream, remember the dream and have a person and place to bring the madness to – this transitional space created in the therapy is the source of her hope.
