ABSTRACT

After almost 22 years Caroline was still bringing the countless books to read together. She would bring in a text lightly underlined in the hope that we would find her experiences in other people’s words. In the intervening time, the author wrote her an email saying that while they realized that she was very angry with them, it was important that she come because therapy was a place to bring her anger as well. Through her writing, Caroline continues to teach a lesson in depth psychology: she analyses her dreams in terms of the dissociative defence. With Caroline’s attack on the author for having told her the truth of the author's encounter with Little Girl Caroline, they find themselves wondering whether this path towards exposure of past pain is truly wise. She enters and in a somewhat threatening way gives to understand that if the author doesn’t let her continue then it would be the end.
