ABSTRACT

The author's reaction to Caroline’s triumphant announcement about carrying out the sterilization was of extreme shock. For her – she had done something positive with her life: she had taken control and ownership over her body in an active way. The immediate effect of her action, however, was to enhance the author's belief that she had been abused, become pregnant and had had an abortion. About ten years later, towards the end of the therapy, the Hanged Doll incident came up again. She asked to see the evidence – the doll that the author had kept in her box, as well as the chopped off hair and the photographs. Eventually, Caroline decided not to write a name on the donor plaque but sign it with an engraving of a small rose. The plaque on the hospital donation wall represented the outside world’s recognition of her past traumas.
