ABSTRACT

This chapter describes Caroline’s use of written texts as a means of communicating with the author. Around the eighth year Caroline began to bring in an occasional article, and from the eleventh year onward she brought many texts. The author's patient Caroline was that unwanted baby that though she was not physically aborted, seemed emotionally distorted from her very beginnings, a “false child”. Many years hence, she will find her own words to describe what contributes to her own sense of feeling a “false” person. Caroline, has described how she had over the years in the home of her childhood, compliantly adopted a false self to the extent of “taking in” both what her mother attributed to her about her identity and passively received her father’s impingements into her body.
