ABSTRACT

Caroline had hesitantly asked about the possibility of there being a different reality. Caroline closes her eyes and keeps them shut for most of the session with no word or movement, as though fearing the author will attack her and she is in freeze to protect herself from them. Experiencing knowing with certainty was a rare moment for Caroline in itself and she was relating to it as a fact, not just a fleeting moment. This “knowing” with a sense of conviction will become the first of a growing list of “emotionally known facts” about her relationship with her mother that will lead eventually to her deciding to end therapy. In the midst of the our preparation for the move to a new place and the thoughts about it there is a one week Passover vacation and on return Caroline has again “lost” continuity and is silent.
